Mr. President,
We thank the delegation of Ghana for presenting, on behalf of the African Group, draft resolution L.29 Rev.1, which constitutes an important and timely call for further concrete action against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
Cuba supports the renewal of the different mandates reflected in this draft resolution, to the implementation of which we will continue contributing actively.
Much remains to be done in the defence of the rights of Africans and people of African descent.
More concrete actions and less political speeches are urgently needed to eradicate the abhorrent and unacceptable discriminatory and racist practices that still prevail.
This Council has a duty to vigorously address the systematic human rights violations committed against people of African descent, particularly in developed countries where police brutality, institutionalised racial discrimination, disproportionate imprisonment, extrajudicial killings and other abhorrent practices.
Cuba reiterates its firm commitment to the full implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, essential platforms in the fight against racism and racial discrimination.
We will continue to advocate for the adoption, as soon as possible, of the United Nations Declaration on the full recognition of the rights of people of African descent.
For these reasons, Cuba will vote in favour of draft resolution L.29 Rev.1 and calls on the members of the Council to do the same.
Thank you very much.
