Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights expresses concern over the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures by the United States restricting fuel supplies to Cuba.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, through his spokesperson, issued a statement today emphasizing the negative humanitarian impact of the financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for decades, including recent measures that restrict the shipment of fuel to the island. He denounced that such unilateral measures severely affect the human rights of the Cuban people.

Statement by Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson at the organizational meeting of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council on the implementation of mandated activities in the context of the financial and liquidity crisis.

Mr. President,

Cuba considers that the Council has reached the limit of what can be rationalized in terms of conference management, including the reduction of time allocated to debates and interactive dialogues. It is also no longer possible to continue restricting the right of States to take the floor in their national capacity, nor to further shorten the duration of statements.
