Mr. President,
Cuba recognizes the positive balance of the work carried out by the High Commissioner and his Office.
We welcome his consistent denunciation, as well as that of numerous mandate holders, regarding the illegal and inhumane actions of the United States against Cuba.
The open threat of military aggression against our country by the nuclear superpower is combined with the suffocating reinforcement of its economic blockade, aggravated by a brutal energy siege and other criminal measures.
The devastating effects are measured in human lives. They are suffered by our children, the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.
The sinister plan of the United States is to create a humanitarian crisis in order to provoke a social explosion. Causing shortages and extreme hardships to millions of people for political purposes is not acceptable under any circumstances.
The undeniable reality is that a dictatorship has emerged in the globalized world. The United States disregards international law and impudently proclaims its exceptional right to conquest.
The dangers looming over Cuba today could tomorrow affect any of the nations represented here.
It is urgent that a broad international coalition, beyond political differences, prevent the abuses that harm the rights of all States. Permissiveness and weakness only encourage the aggressors.
We call on all nations to mobilize to prevent an aggression against Cuba and to avert the imposition of a humanitarian catastrophe upon our people.
Even in the worst-case scenario, Cuba will not surrender. We will defend our independence and sovereignty to the very end.
Thank you very much.
