Madam President,
The threat of direct aggression by the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran, encouraged by the genocidal government of Israel, became a reality following the cowardly bombings of the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.
We reiterate our full solidarity with the people and government of Iran.
Cuba condemns, in the strongest terms, these grave acts, which constitute a dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law.
With this irresponsible step, the United States is recklessly hijacking the pursuit of regional peace and dragging humanity into a crisis of incalculable consequences.
As a permanent member of the Security Council, the United States should be an example of a guarantor and protector of peace, but it is doing just the opposite.
That country flagrantly fails to fulfill its responsibilities and violates its obligations, seriously endangering international security.
By attacking nuclear facilities under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards regime, the United States government is also in grave violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which is even more unacceptable given its status as a Depositary State for that instrument.
Israel, the only country in the Middle East that is not a Party to the NPT, nor has it declared its intention to become one, must renounce the possession of nuclear weapons, accede to the NPT without delay as a non-nuclear-weapon State, and place all its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards.
I conclude, Madam President, by reiterating our call on the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council to exercise their primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security and immediately put an end to this aggression and the impunity with which Israel and the United States act.
These two countries are responsible for the genocide against the Palestinian people. Nothing justifies this barbarity, preceded by decades of illegal occupation.
We demand an immediate cessation of the illegal and unilateral actions of the United States and Israel, and we call on the international community to speak out forcefully against this unacceptable attack on Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
We must act urgently to restore peace, with the determination that the moment demands. Tomorrow will be too late.
Thank you very much
