Mr. President,
The reports submitted on the Islamic Republic of Iran reflect the discriminatory, politicised and selective practices that, regrettably, have been imposed in this Council against countries of the South.
Cuba reiterates its firm rejection of punitive and biased mandates that are established against the will of the State concerned.
The mechanism imposed against Iran, in addition to being detrimental to sovereignty, has proven to be irrelevant. It is a waste of the Council's limited human and financial resources, without results.
The only effective way to promote human rights in all countries is through dialogue and constructive cooperation, based on impartiality, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
Mr. President,
This Council cannot become an instrument of those who seek to subvert the internal order of sovereign nations. The manipulation of human rights for geopolitical purposes outside the mandate of this body is unacceptable.
If we really want to contribute to the cause of human rights in Iran, the cruel and illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed against that country must cease immediately. We are confident that Iran will continue to demonstrate its ability to move forward, despite adversities.
Thank you.
