Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson speaks at the adoption of the report of the Universal Periodic Review of Bhutan. 58th Human Rights Council.

Mr. President,

We welcome the delegation of Bhutan. We acknowledge the nation’s commitment to the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, as well as its national efforts to advance the promotion and protection of human rights.

This commitment was evidenced by the participation of a high-level delegation to the UPR Working Group session, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

We are pleased that Bhutan has accepted the four recommendations made by Cuba. We are confident that they will continue advancing the planned initiatives to ensure various opportunities and job offers for young people.

We urge the country to continue working to ensure the quality, inclusiveness, and sustainability of free healthcare and education services, as well as effective social protection systems for vulnerable groups.

We note the country's efforts to address the demographic challenge they face and to provide greater protection for older people.

We wish Bhutan success in implementing the accepted recommendations and express our support for the adoption of the report.

Thank you.
