Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, speaks at the interactive dialogue with the Group of Independent Experts on the situation of human rights in Belarus. 58th Human Rights Council.

Mr. President,

It is hardly surprising that the report presented by the Group of Experts on Belarus fails to reflect the reality of that country, as it stems from yet another interfering, selective, and biased resolution of this Council.

Cuba reiterates its rejection of the imposition of politically motivated mechanisms that lack the consent of the country concerned.

A significant portion of the already scarce resources continues to be squandered on mechanisms such as the one established against Belarus, which have not and will not yield any results, as respectful dialogue and cooperation remain irreplaceable as the only effective means to advance the promotion and protection of human rights.

Foreign interference and the numerous attempts to undermine the sovereignty of Belarus are unacceptable and incompatible with the United Nations Charter and International Law.

The Council cannot be a tool of coercion and interference against States. We reiterate our call to uphold the principles of impartiality, objectivity, and non-selectivity.

We will continue to demand the immediate cessation of unilateral coercive measures that severely hamper human rights of the Belarusian people.

Thank you.
