Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, speaks on the occasion of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Kyrgyzstan. 49th session of the Human Rights Council’s UPR Working Group

Mr. President,

We welcome the Minister of Justice of Kyrgyzstan and his delegation. We commend this country's commitment to the Universal Periodic Review.

Cuba recognises Kyrgyzstan's significant efforts to consolidate the National Development Programme up to 2026 and the progress made in implementing various national instruments aimed at promoting and protecting the human rights of its population.

We also acknowledge Kyrgyzstan's achievements in combating the consumption and commercialisation of narcotic drugs in the face of their increasing commoditisation and legalisation worldwide.

In a constructive spirit, we recommend:

1. Continuing to refine the National Action Plan to achieve Gender Equality.
2. Expanding, as far as possible, water infrastructure to ensure access to drinking water for rural populations.
3. Further strengthening the State Programme “Healthy person - prosperous Country” to protect health.
4. Reinforcing measures to protect childhood, children's rights, and to prevent acts of violence against minors.

We wish Kyrgyzstan success in this review and in implementing accepted recommendations.
