The Cuban Ambassador to Grenada, Yadirys Echenique Paz, paid a courtesy visit to her counterpart from the People's Republic of China in that country, His Excellency Yang Shu. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and reaffirmed the commitment of both diplomatic missions to strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of the people of Cuba, China, and Grenada.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yang Shu welcomed the Cuban representative and recalled that Cuba was the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, as well as the first in the Western Hemisphere to forge a bilateral community with a shared future. The Chinese diplomat emphasized that Cuba has been a good friend, sister, and comrade of China for decades, and assured that the Chinese embassy is ready to maintain close communication and cooperation with the Cuban mission, with the aim of contributing to the economic and social development of Grenada. The Chinese diplomat also inquired about the situation facing Cuba under the conditions imposed by the United States' economic embargo. In this regard, he reaffirmed his country's condemnation of the unilateral coercive measures and expressed his country's solidarity with the Cuban people, while acknowledging the challenges of living under these restrictions.
For her part, Ambassador Echenique Paz highlighted the achievements of the Chinese Embassy in Grenada over the years and described China as a friend of Cuba. She noted that the Cuban mission hopes to maintain strong relations with the Chinese representation, actively create opportunities for cooperation and exchanges, and work together to improve the well-being of the Grenadian people.
