Ambassadors from the Latin American and Caribbean countries represented in Bangkok had a farewell get together to say goodbye to the Director General of the Latin American and South Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr. Songsak Saichaue, who will soon assume his new responsibility as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand in Austria.
At the cordial meeting, the good status of bilateral relations between Thailand and GRULAC was reaffirmed and the permanent support of Mr. Songsak to the countries of the region was appreciated.
The ambassadors congratulated Mr. Songsak on his designation at a venue with broad bilateral and multilateral content. They emphasized the importance they attached to the work related to nuclear disarmament, both within the framework of the General Assembly and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the latter based in Vienna. In this area they expressed the pride of the region to have been the first zone of the planet declared free of nuclear weapons, through the Treaty of Tlatelolco aimed at the proscription of this type of armament.
The ambassadors of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean welcomed the new Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Héctor Conde Almeida. The Ambassador of Colombia, Mr. Andelfo García, Dean of GRULAC in Thailand, took the opportunity to thank the Caribbean country for offering 1000 scholarships to study medicine in support of the peace process in Colombia.
