The Humanistic Association of Solidarity Cuba - Santa Lucia held its annual meeting last Saturday, august 29, which was dedicated on this occasion to the 41st anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries and to the 15th anniversary of the Association. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Association, Marlene Alexander, and the Cuban Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas. In addition, the former Governor General of Saint Lucia, Dame Pearlette Louisy was in attendance, as well as members of the Executive Committee of the Association, representatives of the Guild of Cuban Graduates and members of the Cuban Medical Mission and the Henry Reeve Brigade. Marlene Alexander, Head of the Association reaffirmed in her speech the position of solidarity and support for Cuba on the occasion of this anniversary of bilateral relations. She expressed gratitude and appreciation for Cuba’s medical cooperation, especially in the fight against Covid-19, and informed of her support for the nomination of the Henry Reeve Brigade for the Nobel Peace Prize. During the meeting a letter was read from the First Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Noemí Rabaza, addressed to Marlene, in which she conveys her congratulations on the anniversary of the Association and reiterates her willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity. The Cuban Ambassador conveyed his congratulations on the anniversary of bilateral relations and the founding of the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia - Cuba) and expressed Cuba’s willingness to continue to strengthen relations of solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the Governments and peoples of the two countries. On behalf of the Henry Reeve Brigade, the collaborator Gloria Ayala gave a speech; who explained the history of the solidarity rendered by the Brigade in the last 15 years and also illustrated the work they do in Saint Lucia, where they arrived this past March 27th to support in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. Cuba and Saint Lucia established bilateral relations on 23rd August 1979, only six months after the island gained independence.
