In an statement, the Anti-facist International Kenya Chapter expressed its deep concern regarding the recent United States Executive Order issued on January 29, 2026, which declares a national emergency and authorizes tariffs on countries providing oil to Cuba. This measure has intensied Cuba's
longstanding economic challenges, resulting in widespread power outages, fuel shortages, and disruptions to essential services such as healthcare, food distribution, and transportation.
The full statement reads:
We express deep concern regarding the recent United States Executive Order issued on January 29, 2026, which declares a national emergency and authorizes tariffs on countries providing oil to Cuba. This measure has intensified Cuba's longstanding economic challenges, resulting in widespread power outages, fuel shortages, and disruptions to essential services such as healthcare, food distribution, and transportation. These actions contribute to signicant hardship for the Cuban population, exacerbating vulnerabilities in daily life and economic stability.
The Cuban Revolution continues to serve as a powerful symbol of resistance against U.S. imperialism, offering inspiration to nations and peoples in the Global South. Since its inception, it has demonstrated resilience in the face of external pressures, advancing social achievements in education, healthcare, and international solidarity. Cuba's contributions, including medical aid to Africa and beyond, underscore its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination amid ongoing challenges.
We urge comrades and allies worldwide to stand in solidarity with Cuba, condemning these U.S. policies as violations of international law and the principles of national sovereignty enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The Cuban people have the inherent right to determine their political and economic
future free from external interference. We call for the immediate cessation of all U.S. sanctions, blockades, and related measures that undermine Cuba's stability and well-being.
Respect for Cuba's sovereignty and compliance with global legal standards are essential to fostering peaceful international relations. The Anti-Fascist International Kenya Chapter reiterates its commitment to justice, human rights, and the end of unilateral coercive actions. We stand ready to support diplomatic efforts toward dialogue and mutual respect.
The Cuban Revolution will triumph, as it always has, proving that peoples united can bury empires.
In revolutionary solidarity,
Anti-Fascist International Kenya Chapter
