Antigua and Barbuda Expresses Gratitude to Cuba at Summit in Barbados

St. John, December 8th, 2022. Minister of Foreign Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene in his address at the 8th Cuba-CARICOM Summit in Barbados, expressed Antigua and Barbuda’s gratitude to the Republic of Cuba for its assistance during the covid-19 pandemic.

Minister Greene highlighted the long history of shared cooperation between both countries as well as the dedication shown by Cuban medical personnel who provided critical support to the country’s healthcare system during the height of the pandemic.

The Antiguan Minister also underscored other areas of regional support provided by Cuba.  This include access to inclusive and equitable education by offering scholarships to students across the region who study in Cuba and then return to contribute to the development of their respective countries. He also articulated his appreciation for the increased number of medical scholarships offered to Antigua and Barbuda which allows for expanding its healthcare human resources.

In reaffirming Antigua and Barbuda’s committment to strengthening its relation and bilateral cooperation with Cuba, he also called for an end to the United States’ financial, economic and trade blockade which has been in effect against Cuba for sixty years.
