The 125th anniversary of the fall in combat of the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí Pérez, was honored today by students from the Azerbaijan University of Languages, who participate in a videoconference project organized by the Mexican diplomatic mission in this Caucasian nation.
The digital event was attended by the Cuban ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, who highlighted the imprint of the Apostle on the revolutionary thought of Cuba and Latin America.
The Cuban diplomat explained to the university students how Martí rejected slavery, racial discrimination and social injustice, being a faithful defender of the equality of all men and of Cuba's fight against colonial rule.
Likewise, Nieves Portuondo highlighted that Martí during his residencies in Mexico, Guatemala and Venezuela knew the cultural elements that distinguished these nations and stoked the internationalist sentiment of all Cubans.
On the other hand, the Mexican ambassador in Azerbaijan, Rodrigo Labardini, participant in the tribute, valued very important that the Azeri students knew about the ideals, traditions and culture of the Latin American countries.
Labardini thanked the documentary sample "Two Rivers, the origin" on the last moments of the life of the Cuban hero and urged young people to inquire more about the history of the peoples of Latin America.
On May 19, 1895, the National Hero of Cuba, José Julián Martí Pérez, a Cuban of universal projection who went beyond the borders of the time he lived to become the greatest Hispanic-American political thinker of the 19th century, fell in combat.
