During an interview on the television programme Mornin' Barbados, in the segment Conversations on CARICOM, H.E. David Comissiong, Barbados' Ambassador to CARICOM, reaffirmed the Caribbean's principled solidarity with Cuba and emphasized the region's longstanding commitment to justice, international law and cooperation among nations.
Ambassador Comissiong underscored the significance of standing with the Cuban people at a time when the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against Cuba continues to be intensified. He noted that the Caribbean has consistently defended Cuba's sovereignty and opposed unilateral coercive measures that negatively affect the country's development and the well-being of its people.
During the interview, Ambassador Comissiong also referred to the solidarity initiatives undertaken by several Caribbean countries in support of Cuba. In the case of Barbados, he highlighted the country's contribution, made through CARICOM, toward the purchase of food for the Cuban people, noting that the process is currently underway.
The Ambassador also explained the significance of the recent COFCOR Declaration on Cuba, stressing that it reflects the unified and principled position of the Caribbean Community in support of Cuba. He noted that the declaration reaffirms CARICOM's longstanding rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade, calls for Cuba's removal from the unilateral list of alleged State Sponsors of Terrorism, and reiterates the Community's commitment to the principles of sovereignty, non-interference, international law and constructive engagement among nations.
