On June 20 and 21, the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus hosted the Small Islands Future Festival: SIFF 2025. A two-day, family-friendly, free festival where the Barbadian community comes together to celebrate sustainability, innovation and island pride. This event highlights how small islands are creating a greener, more resilient future. The festival includes exhibits, children's activities, food, raffles, and cultural and recreational activities.
The opening ceremony of SIFF 2025 was presided over by Madam Sandra Mason, President of Barbados, who gave a brief speech to officially open the festival. She was accompanied on her tour of the fairgrounds by the diplomats who attended the opening session as guests.
SIFF is organized by the BlueGreen Initiative and the Future Center Trust, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, the UNDP Small Grants Programme and the United Nations GEF Small Grants Programme, and The Ashley Lashley Foundation, among other sponsoring institutions.
The festival seeks to engage the community through eco-conscious challenges and hands-on activities on site, it is an interactive event that reflects the actions of Barbadian youth for a future focused on sustainability and the preservation of local culture and its national heritage.
