Yakarta, January 22nd- The celebration of the 60th Anniversary of establishment of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cuba started this Wednesday with a gathering among officials from Ministry of Foreing Affairs of Republic of Indonesia and Embassy of Cuba in Jakarta. Mrs. Zelda Kartika, director of America I in Indonesian Foreing Ministry attend to the ocassion.
During her welcome remarks, Ambassador of Cuba Tania Velázquez highlight the historic relevance of the establishment of official ties between both countries. In addition, he noted the strength of the ties forged by President Ackmed Soekarno and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, which has allowed a fruitful concertation on issues on the international agenda.
For her part, Ms. Kartika affirmed that the conditions are created to move towards greater cooperation in the economic-commercial area between Indonesia and Cuba, and recognized untapped potential in the investment area of both countries.
Indonesia and Cuba officially established diplomatic relations on January 22, 1960. In May of that same year, Ackmed Soekarno, founding president of the Republic of Indonesia made his historic visit to Cuba. He was the first head of state to visit the Caribbean island after the triumph of the Revolution.
