Bilateral Cooperation between Cuba and Barbados moves forward.

On September 20, representatives of the Working Group for Bilateral Cooperation between Cuba and Barbados held their first virtual meeting. Carlos Luis Jorge Méndez, First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba (MINCEX) and David Comissiong, Ambassador of Barbados to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), and representative of Barbados to this Joint Working Group, chaired the exchange. Also in attendance were the Ambassador of Barbados in Cuba, Sharon Milagro Marshall, the Ambassador of Cuba in Barbados, Yanet Stable Cárdenas and other executives of the ministries in charge of the activity in both countries.

Comissiong expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the joint program and described as satisfactory this first exchange in which possibilities of bilateral cooperation were evaluated in several areas such as: trade, education, disaster response and culture and arts, in addition to strengthening those that already exist in sports, health and welfare, agriculture, tourism and transportation.

The Barbadian representative expressed satisfaction with the start of a scholarship program for Cuban students to learn English, and affirmed that this is the result of the willingness to reciprocate the help in the training of human resources received by Barbados for many years in Cuban teaching centers.
Ambassador Yanet Stable Cárdenas expressed that both parties ratified the will to advance in the fulfillment of the agreements established between Prime Minister Mia Motley and President Miguel Diaz-Canel, on the occasion of the visit of the Cuban president to Barbados in 2022, to identify new areas of collaboration.
