Blockade of Cuba violates international law, Jamaica denounces at the UN

Bloqueo a Cuba viola derecho internacional, denuncia Jamaica en ONU

United Nations, New York, November 2, 2023 (Prensa Latina).  The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than 60 years violates international law, the Jamaican delegation denounced today at the United Nations.

"We call for the removal of this blockade, which has been in place for decades, and which not only generates unnecessary wounds on the economy, but also suppresses expressions of development of the growth potential of the Cuban people," said the Jamaican representative.

He also mentioned that Cuba's inclusion on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism deepens the challenges to the island's participation in trade and financial cooperation relations with third countries.

"Jamaica considers this prolonged blockade to be contrary to the norms and ethics governing friendly relations between states, trade and international navigation and remains the main obstacle to the prosperity of the Cuban people," he said.

"For too long the people of Cuba have suffered unjustifiably and indignantly from the consequences of these unilateral measures, and Jamaica reiterates its call for an end to this blockade," the representative said on the last day of debate at the UN General Assembly on the proposed resolution presented by Cuba on the need to end the blockade.
