Blockade, the main obstacle to the socio-economic development of Cuba

Interview Daily Observer

Banjul, October 21st, 2016.- The Cuban Ambassador to The Gambia, Lázaro Herrera, denounced today the permanence of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba as the main obstacle to the development of the island in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, leading newspaper of the African country.

In this sense, the diplomat recalled that just a year and four months of existence of the Cuban revolution, a senior American official proposed to subdue the Cuban people through hunger, disappointment and dissatisfaction, denying any economic, commercial or financial, resource to force it to reveal against the only Government in Cuban history that had defended its interests under the leadership of Fidel.

That was, he said, the foundation of the blockade, which failure has been recognized more than five decades later by an American President, Barack Obama, the same who now aspires to achieve the same purposes by other means.

The Cuban diplomat listed the damages caused by the blockade in all spheres of the life of the country despite the great international rejection and said that by the end of this month of October the world's people represented by 193 countries in the United Nations, will express once again its rejection of the blockade, surely with the already known dishonorable exceptions of United States and Israel.

Ambassador Herrera thanked the support Cuba has ever received on the part of the Gambian Government and people.
