Colombo, Sri Lanka —
Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka strongly condemns the latest attempt by the United States to block the United Nations resolution calling for an end to the decades-long economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed on the Republic of Cuba.
The U.S. embargo, imposed soon after the victory of the Cuban Revolution, has continued for more than six decades — despite overwhelming global opposition. When comparing the United States and the Socialist Republic of Cuba, the disparity in size, resources, and power is immense. Yet, Cuba continues to stand as a global example of dignity, equality, and social justice — values that the United States, despite its vast wealth, has failed to emulate.
Cuba’s model of using its limited resources for the benefit of all its citizens stands in stark contrast to the U.S. system, which prioritizes power and profit. Unable to accept the success of a socialist model built on solidarity and equality, U.S. imperialism has repeatedly sought to destabilize Cuba through sanctions, disinformation, and external aggression.
In 2024, the United Nations General Assembly once again voted overwhelmingly — with 187 member states in favor — to lift the U.S. embargo on Cuba. Only the United States and Israel voted against the resolution, with the Republic of Moldova abstaining. Despite this near-unanimous global consensus, international reports indicate that on October 28 and 29, the United States will again attempt to defeat this humanitarian resolution for the thirty-third consecutive time by spreading misinformation and exerting pressure on U.N. member states.
We call upon all peace-loving nations, organizations, and peoples of the world not to yield to such intimidation or deceit. As history has shown, “being an enemy of America is dangerous — but being a friend is deadly.”
Cuba, alongside Venezuela and other nations resisting imperial domination, continues to share invaluable lessons of resilience and sovereignty with the world. The record of countries destroyed after aligning themselves with U.S. interests stands as a stark warning to all.
We, the Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka, urge the global anti-imperialist community, friends of Cuba, and defenders of justice everywhere to stand united once again — to defeat the latest U.S. attempt to sabotage the will of the international community and to reaffirm solidarity with the Cuban people and their revolution.
Thank you.
