Kingston, 28 August 2022. Members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, Cuban residents, Jamaican friends and those from other parts of the world who make up the Cuba Solidarity Movement and representatives of political organisations and social movements converged on the morning of 28 August in front of the monument dedicated to Major General Antonio Maceo, located in Jamaica's National Heroes Park, to demand an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.
Osvaldo Cárdenas, president of the "Antonio Maceo" Association of Cubans Residing in Jamaica, gave a historical review of the origin of the blockade and its negative impact on all spheres of development in our country. He denounced the extraterritoriality of this genocidal policy and the way in which it limits financial transactions with banks in third countries.
The representative of the All African Peoples Revolutionary Party, Imhotep Ashanti, ratified the solidarity with the Cuban people in this battle against Yankee imperialism, which has been going on for more than six decades; at the same time he reaffirmed his confidence in victory.
Christophe Simpson, head of the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS) pointed to the legacy of Fidel, Che and the Cuban Revolution as a source of inspiration for left forces in Jamaica, the Caribbean and globally.
President of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association (JCFA), Trevor Brown, stated that Cuba is not alone in its struggle for the lifting of the blockade. He called for people to stay informed in order to confront the aggressive media campaign against the island.
In the last speech of the day, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, thanked the Jamaican people and government for their permanent expressions of solidarity in the struggle against the blockade and called on those present to continue to denounce the consequences of this abusive and harmful policy in every forum, in every space and from every corner of the world.
