Kingston, Jamaica, 7 December 2022. Members of the Cuban State Mission and representatives of the Association of Cubans living in Jamaica paid tribute to the Bronze Titan on the 126th anniversary of his fall in combat.
Antonio Maceo is one of those names that unite Cuba and Jamaica, and demonstrate the strong geographical, historical and solidarity ties that bind the two Caribbean islands. It was reaffirmed that the ideal of Antonio Maceo is present at this time when the empire is trying to undermine the sovereignty, independence and unity of our people. In front of the statue, the participants made his words their own: "Whoever tries to take over Cuba, will gather the dust of its soil soaked in blood, if not perish in the struggle".
The monument to the distinguished Cuban patriot is the only one erected within the perimeter of Kingston's National Heroes Park to a foreign hero. It was donated by the Cuban people in 1952, in recognition of the decision of the authorities of Jamaica, then a British colony, to offer Maceo asylum after the end of the Ten Years' War.
