Caravans "Bridges of Love" for the end of the blockade

March 28th, 2021. Cubans residing in different latitudes and solidarity groups with our country staged, this weekend, the ninth edition of “Puentes de Amor” caravans, in favor of the end of the economic sanctions imposed on Cuba and by the Cuban families.

On March 27 and 28, Cuban residents and friends of Cuba in 31 countries held caravans and demonstrations in 57 cities to condemn the US blockade and demand its elimination. These were joined by actions in other cities around the world within the international campaign against the blockade and in support of our country, organized by solidarity groups with the island.

In the United States, on March 28, Cubans and Americans held caravans of cars and bicycles in the US cities of Washington DC, Miami, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Las Vegas, Tampa, San Francisco, Seattle and Detroit; to ask the United States government to eliminate this hostile policy that harms the Cuban people. Special significance was the opening ceremony of the caravan starring our compatriots in Tampa, where the participants paid homage to our Apostle in the “Amigos de José Martí” park, in Ybor City.

The date coincided with the 60 days of the creation of the NEMO movement (No Embargo Movement), which has managed to bring together more than 50 thousand members from more than 137 countries so far. Both on its digital platform www.NoBloqueoCuba.com, and on its page on the social network Facebook, NEMO has published more than 30 thousand messages from its members, addressed to President Biden for the lifting of the extraterritorial policy of blockade imposed on our country for more than 60 years.

In Canada, organized by the associations of Cubans residing in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto and supported by solidarity organizations in that country, the day against the blockade began on Saturday, March 27 with the caravan of cars in the city of Victoria, to which they happened on the 28th, the caravans made in Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal.

On this occasion, the anti-blockade caravans also toured cities in Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Cyprus, Belgium, Austria, Azerbaijan, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Honduras, Nicaragua, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico , Belize, Ecuador, El Salvador, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago. Our nationals abroad participated in other activities in support of the “Bridges of Love” initiative in Italy, France, the Netherlands and Haiti.

At the same time, this weekend, the digital environment was also a fruitful space in the work to condemn the sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States, led by Cubans abroad. The broadcasts and coverage made from every latitude where our nationals and friends of our people spoke out against the blockade, the messages of support for the caravans by the Cuban family and the virtual meetings in Europe, are proof of this.

Sport also became a form of expression against US extraterritorial policy. In China, the “PequeSoy” project carried out the space “Boxeando por Cuba”; while in Cape Verde, Cuban medical collaborators, members of the resident Cuban community and friends of the Association of Former Students Graduates in Cuba (CAMICUBA), celebrated the Friendly Baseball Game "Hit against the Blockade."
