Kingston, 6 October 2023. Members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica (ACRJ) "Antonio Maceo", the Cuba Solidarity Movement, political forces, youth and social movements, as well as a representation of health and education collaborators convened at the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica to pay tribute to the victims of state terrorism against Cuba and to commemorate CARICOM-Cuba Day against terrorism.
The ceremony began with a minute's silence in homage to the 73 victims of the Cubana de Aviación plane that was blown up in mid-flight on October 6, 1973, as well as to the 3478 sons and daughters of our homeland who lost their lives and the 2099 who were injured as a result of terrorist actions.
During the speeches of the leaders of the ACRJ, the Left Alliance for National Democracy and Socialism (LANDS), the Patriotic Movement of Jamaica and the Marcus Garvey People's Political Party, the removal of Cuba from the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism was demanded. The resistance of the Cuban people and the will to continue the creative work of the Revolution, despite the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government, was recognised. A call was made for the unity of the peoples of the Caribbean to confront US imperialism.
In his speech to those present, the Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sanchez, expressed his gratitude for the expressions of solidarity received by the mission after the terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy in Washington on 24 September, denounced the blockade and demanded the removal of the island from the illegal list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. The diplomat also reiterated Cuba's stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. (Embacuba Jamaica)
