CARICOM-Cuba Day against terrorism: statement of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association

Today 6th October 2023, ,we mark one of the most diabolic, terrorist acts that was committed 47 years ago organised, financed and carried out by the government of  United States of America and its agents,, against our sister country, which was the mid-flight destruction  of Cubana Airline CU-455,off the coast of Barbados,  resulting in the loss of 73 innocent lives of Cuban, Guyanese, North Korean citizens..

This most vile act, joined a  long list of terrorist actions 713, which has been  hatched on US soil,at our last count, since the triumph of the Cuban revolution in 1959 led by its historic leader Fidel, which included bombings, bacteriological warfare, torture and murder of civilians, mercenary invasion and assasination attempts on the lives of its leaders. Additionally, the imposition of genocidal economic blockade since 1962, designed to starve the Cuban population into submission which has had the approval of successive US presidents.

The cost to the Cuban society by these terrorist actions have been immense, 3478 deaths, 2099 wounded(some maimed for life) and economically in excess of USD181 billion in what is an undeclared war of aggression, which ironically not one single US citizen can claim be harmed by the Cuban government in similar manner

Yet  Cuba is placed on a dubious list of State Sponsor of Terrorism,by the main culprit,,which by this designation,  extends the, economic, financial and commercial blockade as it prevents this champion of solidarity, from accessing developmental capital, raw materials technology, food  and other key inputs, that are necessary for its day to day existence..

We should also be mindful of the fact that, for  the past 31 years of consecutive  meetings of United Nations General Assembly,(UNGA), the overwhelming majority of humanity's citizens have voted for the unconditional removal, of this anachronistic and barbaric cruelty, with the USA and its proxy Israel, being the consistent odd-couple that supports its maintenance.

In the best tradition of our Caribbean people as we remember our 73 brothers and sisters whose innocent blood was shed by a dying empire, Cuba is not alone.

We will continue to stand with you in the trenches or wherever the struggle takes us Resisting, overcoming and transforming One Love and one struggle.
