Kingston, Jamaica, 22 February 2020. Friday, February 21, 2020 in the evening, the Second Meeting on Professional Development for the Cuban community residing in Jamaica was held at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba. The event, organized by members of the ´Antonio Maceo´ Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, brought together more than 50 participants, and aimed to provide them with means to facilitate their insertion into the Jamaican society, and clarify doubts about consular and migratory procedures in this country.
The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Cuba in Jamaica, Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, and had the special participation of the Jamaican Ambassador in Cuba, Ms. Kathryn Phipps, who explained consular procedures for Cubans interested in visiting our country and answered questions from the audience.
Likewise, Mr. Ralston Richardo Bent, a young Jamaican veterinarian graduated in Cuba, recalled his experiences during his studies in our country, and the importance of perseverance to achieve success in any aspect of life.
Mr. Ulises Calvo Borges, Consul of Cuba in Jamaica, spoke about the upcoming ´Nation and Emigration´ event and the impact of these meetings on relations with the Cuban community residing abroad. He explained briefly about the evolution in the last decades of the Cuban government's relations with emigrants and about the benefits currently enjoyed by emigrants in retrieving right to residency in the national territory. On the role of our Diplomatic Mission in this relationship, he said: “This is the Cuban Embassy in Jamaica, the home of all Cubans, and so we want you to feel today, at home. You are this Consulate´s raison d'être. That is why we want each person coming or contacting us for our services, or in case of any issue or doubt, feels special.”
