Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in New Zealand

Wellington, December 6, 2018.- Given the proximity of Christmas, end of the year and summer holidays, the Embassy of Cuba in New Zealand decided to advance the celebrations for the 60 anniversary of the Revolution, which was attended by politicians, academics, businessmen, friends of Cuba and members of its community in that country. Present in the event was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters.

The Cuban ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, highlighted the friendship relations between his country and New Zealand, marking their coincidences on key issues for the survival of humankind, such as climate change and nuclear disarmament.

Referring to his country, the diplomat noted as relevant the levels of social justice and equal opportunities, in a nation that has faced for more than 50 years a strong economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States. He also highlighted the outstanding work of Cuban doctors, who, among other difficult and remote destinations, serve in a selfless manner in the Pacific Islands.

On the Kiwi side, Deputy Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ben King, welcomed the warm relations maintained between Cuba and New Zealand, countries that pay careful attention to their links with developing nations in the Pacific and the Caribbean.

The event took place in a friendly and festive atmosphere, with successive expressions of admiration and recognition for Cuba and its Revolution, and great enthusiasm for the good momentum in bilateral relations. (Embacuba NZ)
