Celebration day for the Transcultura project in Havana

Havana, April 29, 2025. With the concert of the “Transcultura Band” and the inauguration of the Santa Clara College for Training in the Arts and Crafts of the Restoration of Cuba and the Caribbean, the Transcultura project celebrates two important milestones of its results.

Under the artistic direction of the prestigious Cuban pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca, young Caribbean talents, beneficiaries from the Transcultura program, fused danzon, jazz and poetry in a great concert on the evening of April 29 in Havana's Plaza Vieja, celebrating the cultural diversity of our region.

For its part, the conclusion of the first restoration phase of the Santa Clara Convent, Havana's oldest and largest monastic building, marked the inauguration of a center for advanced studies to train specialists in restoration, with students coming from Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean countries. This idea had its genesis in the Master Plan for the Integral Revitalization of Old Havana, promoted by PhD. Eusebio Leal Spengler, that is leaded by the Office of the Historian of Havana.

The works, which received technical assistance from UNESCO through the Transcultura program and financing from the European Union and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, will turn the Santa Clara College into a center of reference for the arts, restoration and sustainable heritage management.

The presence of the island's authorities, headed by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, reaffirms the country's commitment to the promotion of culture, the safeguarding of heritage and the Caribbean region.
