Oslo, 13 August 2026. The Cuban Embassy in Norway was the venue for a moving celebration of the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
A group of close friends of the Cuban Revolution from the solidarity organisation Cubaforeningen i Norge, other friendly organisations and political activists, as well as Cubans living in Oslo, and representations of friends from Chile, Venezuela and El Salvador, shared their thoughts with Ambassador Hugo Ramos Milanés on Fidel’s extraordinary legacy for Cuba, for the world and, in particular, for those fighting for a better and fairer world.
Following the Cuban ambassador’s address, the documentary ‘Fidel the Diplomat’ was screened as a reaffirmation of the recognition of the masterful way in which Fidel engaged with the most significant issues on the international stage and how he was able to foster and mobilise such solidarity around the world.
The Cuban ambassador expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the friends who, moments earlier, had gathered in the square in front of the Norwegian Parliament to publicly pay tribute to Fidel on the centenary of his birth, but also as an act of solidarity with the Cuban people and in condemnation of the US government’s aggression.
