Harare, February 20, 2026 – The Chairman of the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and the Zimbabwe-Cuba Friendship Group, Webster Kotiwani Shamu, reiterated today the nation's long-standing position against the blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island.
In a meeting with Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa, Shamu reaffirmed the rejection of all unilateral coercive measures, such as those also faced by Zimbabwe.
The Cuban Ambassador briefed the legislative leader and war veteran on the recent executive order issued by the US President to attempt to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies, with its genocidal effects on the people of Cuba.
Pérez Mesa warned of the risks and the precedent that this action by Washington represents for any country, in blatant violation of international law and the rules of global trade.
The Head of Mission referred to the expressions of support received by Havana from governments and parliaments, solidarity organizations, and Cubans residing abroad, including those from the sister African region.
In this regard, she highlighted the adoption, for the seventeenth time, of a resolution at the African Union Summit condemning the blockade against Cuba and the unilateral and unjust inclusion of the island on the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.
During the friendly meeting, which included the participation of Second Secretary Zailin Gaulhiac Moráguez, Shamu and Pérez Mesa discussed initiatives to support and show solidarity with the island in addressing the current situation, with the conviction that the US government will not achieve its persistent and sinister objectives.
