The collaboration between the University of Havana and the Norwegian University of Stavanger goes ahead

Oslo, August 24, 2022. The international collaboration project “Wellbeing in Cuba and Norway. Strengthening professional training on social policies and welfare from an intercultural perspective”, in force between the Department of Sociology of the University of Havana (UH) and the Department of Social Studies of the University of Stavanger (UiS), continues to develop satisfactorily.

In recent days, a new group of eight Cuban professors and researchers arrived in Stavanger with the aim of carrying out a training stay that contributes to their master's and doctoral studies. They are all post-graduate students from the Sociology Department of the UH, but they also represent several Cuban institutions in the scientific and academic field: Center for Studies on Youth (CESJ), Center for Psychological and Sociological Research (CIPS), Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Matanzas province) and the University of Havana itself.

The sociologists will attend the fall semester at the UiS in subjects related to the gender approach, equality and social welfare, intercultural practices and ethics in social work. Master's students Iván Moreno, Elena Bon, Beatriz País and Yanelys Despaigne; as well as the doctoral students Niuva Ávila, Mariana Muñoz, Mirlena Rojas and Jusmary Gómez benefited from study scholarships that meet one of the objectives of the project: the strengthening of professional skills.

This collaboration project began in 2020 and will run until 2024, within the framework of the existing agreement between the two universities. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
