The collective of the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica celebrates the Day of National Rebellion

The collective of the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica celebrates the Day of National Rebellion.

Kingston, Jamaica, 25 July 2020. On Friday July 24 in the afternoon, members of the collective of the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica celebrated a political-cultural activity chaired by the Ambassador Inés Fors Fernández, Head of the State Mission, and Bernardino Miclín Dupuy, Secretary General of the PCC’s grassroot in the Embassy, to commemorate the 67th Anniversary of the Day of National Rebellion.

During the activity, memories were brought of the events related to the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953, bringing along participants’ reflections on the validity of such a feat in the context of the battle waged today by our people to get ahead despite the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, and the campaign to discredit Cuba's international medical cooperation. A touching chronicle entitled ‘We Made History’ was read, written for the occasion by Ms. Bárbara Rodríguez Osorio, a member of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica, and a short video, prepared by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) with Fidel and Raúl’s testimonies on the date, was played.

This was just one of the many activities planned in Jamaica to commemorate such an important anniversary. On the very morning of July 24, some 40 members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica - including members of the Embassy’s staff and Cuban healthcare and education workers- joined in a massive blood donation in seven of the country’s parishes. On July 26, celebrations will be held by each of the medical brigades deployed throughout the Jamaican geography, as well as a videoconference of international scope organized by the Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Jamaica.
