A political and cultural activity was held at the Embassy of Cuba in Ghana in tribute to the 56th anniversary of the Day of African Unity (AU), which was headed by the Ambassador, Pedro Luis Despaigne González.
The main speakers at the event were the leader of the Socialist Forum of Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr.; Mr. Benjamin Anyagre, a Ghanaian graduate of Cuba; the Cuban resident in Ghana, Dr. Claribel Cabarrocas; and Ambassador Kojo Owusu Gyamadua Amoo-Gottfried, who was directly linked to the beginnings of bilateral cooperation.
In their interventions, the speakers highlighted different facets of the meaning of the date, and coincided in the historical relationship between Cuba and Africa; the role played by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution in the creation of these close ties; the validity of the ideals of African integration; the potential of Africa to achieve its development; the support for Cuba and its people in the fight against the blockade.
In his speech, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the significance of Africa and the Africans in shaping the Cuban Nation; He thanked the AU for its common position of rejection of the blockade, and ratified Cuba's commitment to continue cooperating with Africa in the formation of its human resources. Regarding Ghana, he reiterated that in the year of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations more than 200 young people will return from Cuba with their medical degrees and another two hundred are marching to pursue postgraduate and undergraduate studies in Medicine. He also announced the VI Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba which will take place in Abuja, Nigeria between September 23rd and 25th, 2019.
In the tribute to the Mother Continent, together with the Embassy group, representatives of organizations that make up the solidarity campaign with Cuba, member of the diplomatic corps, Cubans living in Ghana, Ghanaians graduated in Cuba, and representatives of the press, such as Pan African TV, Kantanka TV, and Diplomatic Affairs, which reported the activity and interviewed several of the participants.
The attendees took a photo in the Embassy's courtyard, before a palm sown exactly one year before, on May 25, 2018.
