Kingston, 7 October. Representatives of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica and the accredited diplomatic corps, members of the Cuban solidarity movement, representatives of political and social organisations and movements, students of the José Martí Technical High School and Cuban residents met at the Simón Bolívar Cultural Centre to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the arrival of our National Hero in Jamaican territory.
Vivian Crawford, Director of the Institute of Jamaica, spoke of Martí's passion for education and its reflection in the Technical High School that bears his name; while the President of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica "Antonio Maceo", Osvaldo Cardenas, outlined the presence of the National Hero, Mariana Grajales and Antonio and Jose Maceo in Kingston during the period of the Fecund Truce.
Trevor Brown, President of the Jamaica-Cuba Friendship Association, recalled the teachings of the Apostle, present in the Centenary Generation and in the humanist work developed by the Cuban Revolution.
The Ambassador of Cuba in Jamaica Fermín Quiñones evoked the common history that unites both nations and called on the peoples of the Americas to "walk in a tight square, like silver in the roots of the Andes".
As part of the activity, Meliset Rodríguez performed the song "La Guantanamera".
