They Will Not Defeat Cuba.
The U.S. blockade against Cuba was never merely a series of sanctions. It was a comprehensive plan of U.S. aggression aimed at subjugating, through deception and force, a people unwilling to abandon socialism. The United States not only prohibited American companies from trading with Cuba — an independent and sovereign country with the right to trade with other nations — but also threatened the entire world with massive sanctions, effectively preventing almost any economic, financial, or commercial relationship with Cuba.
The executive order signed by U.S. President Trump on January 30 represents a new level in the vile strategy of imperialism. This is the latest act of banditry by these ruthless imperialists in their attempt to overthrow Cuba.
What we have witnessed in recent days is, in its clearest expression, a struggle between two systems. A collapsed and corrupt social system attacks an egalitarian social system, which represents the only hope for humanity’s future; in order to achieve the goals they have unsuccessfully pursued for years, they are now using perhaps one of the most powerful weapons remaining at their disposal.
The Cuban people, however, remain steadfast and are mobilizing all their resources to repel this attack as well.
The socialist Cuba built by this hardworking and courageous people has for years been a source of hope, courage, and morale for workers around the world and in our own country. Its historic leaders and revolutionary figures have inspired our struggle. Now is the time to demonstrate that we stand, and will continue to stand, with Cuba and the Cuban people as they face a genocidal attack.
The resistance of the Cuban people, driven by their unwavering commitment to socialism, their love of country, and their devotion to independence, will not be in vain. Their friends will always stand by them in this struggle.
The United States, which has besieged Cuba with its blockade, and its allies complicit in this siege, will be held accountable for the crimes committed against the Cuban people and all humanity.
Imperialism will surely be defeated. The Cuban people will prevail.
