We have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez. On behalf of the Communist Party of Turkey, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Communist Party of Cuba, the Cuban people, his comrades, and his family.
The history of the Cuban Revolution is filled with extraordinary heroism, unparalleled sacrifice, and struggles that have advanced the cause of humanity. Ramiro Valdés was one of the most outstanding leaders of this historic process.
The courage and determination he demonstrated throughout the revolutionary struggle—from the Moncada Barracks to the Sierra Maestra—made him one of the leaders most deeply respected by the Cuban people. Yet the historical significance of Comrade Ramiro extends far beyond these achievements. Following the triumph of the Revolution, he became one of the foremost representatives of the revolutionary generation that led the construction of socialism in Cuba with the same determination, courage, and exceptional ability.
The responsibilities he assumed to safeguard Cuba's independence, security, and socialist character in the face of counterrevolutionary attacks, imperialist aggression, and countless hardships; his contributions to the development of industry, technology, and state institutions; and his tireless dedication, which he maintained well into old age, demonstrate how revolutionary commitment and socialist construction were inseparably united in his life and work.
Some people stand out during particular moments in history. Others become an inseparable part of a people's historical journey. Ramiro Valdés, whose life spanned from the most critical days of the Cuban Revolution through the long and demanding years of socialist construction, belonged to the latter. For this reason, his name will be remembered not only for the victory of 1959, but also alongside the enduring socialist achievements that Cuba continues to uphold today.
The memory of Comrade Ramiro will remain alive for all communists who struggle against imperialism and are committed to the cause of independence and socialism.
We share the grief of the Cuban people and honor with profound respect this great revolutionary shaped by the Cuban Revolution.
