Havana, September 13, 2021. The group of experts from the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC) in charge of the investigation, which for more than three years has studied the issue of health symptoms reported by United States diplomats and Canada in Cuba, presented at a press conference the most complete and exhaustive study on the subject ever published in the country.
The study collects the results of the investigations of several work groups that, by specialties, have analyzed and exchanged all the information available in the country and published by international sources, as well as the result of the police investigation and official and scientific exchanges with counterparts in the United States and Canada.
When presenting the document, Mitchell Valdés-Sosa, Doctor in Physiological Sciences and general director of the Cuban Neuroscience Center, coordinator of the panel of experts, pointed out that "the term 'Havana syndrome' is not valid. “It cannot be named what does not exist ” He explained that such a heterogeneous variety of symptoms cannot be attributed to a common cause, something that all official reports published in the United States acknowledge. Cuban experts concluded that the evidence used to support the narrative of the “mysterious syndrome " are not scientifically acceptable in any of their components and have only survived due to a biased use of science.
The report, published on the ACC website, indicates that numerous scientific publications, expert opinions and studies on the ground in this capital challenge or refute the main theories presented by the press and the Trump administration, information is also gathered from quality, largely published in the United States that has been ignored by doctors and scientists as well as the media when writing on the subject. Dr. Valdés explained that most of the claims that apparently support the story were even discarded by the permanent committee of the United States Academies of Sciences in the body of its research report.
The report, which is described as the first document that examines all the edges of the incidents of health of the diplomats of the United States in Havana, also includes a detailed analysis in close consultation with international experts on the affirmation made by the US Academies of Sciences that "microwaves" caused the health problems.
The ACC scientists conclude that Havana's " mysterious syndrome" narrative is not scientifically acceptable in any of its components. They rejected the idea that has so far been built on flimsy foundations and faulty scientific practice, and invited all voices to be heard, this and other efforts be subjected to critical scrutiny, and analyzes on the subject be refuted in an open and open environment of collaboration.
