Athens, 27 November. The Jose Martí Cultural Association of solidarity with Cuba organized an event to condemn the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, in the Cinema theater "Studio" of the company New Star Art Cinema of the friends of Cuba Velisarios Kossivakis, in what his wife the Cuban resident Leticia Suarez also helped. At the event took the floor, Kostas Sanidas of the Association, the Cuban Ambassador Zelmys María Dominguez Cortina, and the moderator was George Mehrabian of the association.
Kostas Sanidas explained the effects of the blockade, which he strongly condemns on behalf of the association, as well as highlighted the struggle of the Cuban people. The Ambassador thanked everyone for their support and solidarity, explained the heroic resistance of the Cuban people for 60 years, the achievements of the revolution, the politics of the United States, the measures of the new American administration, the will of Cuban people to fight for their sovereignty, their rejection of blackmail and threats, the firmness of its principles and internationalism, as well as condemnation of slander and media campaigns against Cuba, among other topics. In addition, the ambassador recalled the shooting of a group of medical students, by the Spanish colonial government in Cuba in 1871, and the poem that the Cuban national hero José Martí dedicated to them in tribute to their memory.
After, the ambassador answered several questions from the attendees. The event concluded with the screening of the documentary "Blockade: The Economic War against Cuba”.
Diplomatic counsellors from Cuba and Uruguay, representatives of various parties and political forces, members of the solidarity association and friends of Cuba in general attended.
