Councillor of Dunedin City Council receives the Cuban ambassador

Dunedin, July 18th, 2019. As part of his visit to this city, Cuban ambassador Mario Alzugaray Rodríguez held a fruitful meeting with David Benson-Pope, Dunedin Councillor.

During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the importance that Cuba attaches to links with New Zealand, based on respect and mutual trust. He also underlined the positive cooperation links that the two nations have developed in recent years, emphasizing the agreement for the training in English language of Cuban doctors destined for the Pacific Islands.

During his visit to Dunedin, Ambassador Alzugaray inaugurated the exhibition of photographs "Cuba through Kiwi eyes", which took place at the Business School of the University of Otago. Additionally, he met the members of the Cuba Friendship Society in this city and offered an interview for the local radio station OAR FM Dunedin, in which he addressed Cuba's vision regarding the situation in Latin America, the aggressive escalation of the US government towards the Island and other issues on the international agenda.
