Cuba adheres to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, signed on Tuesday, November 10, the instrument of accession of Cuba to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), within the framework of the 37th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, conducted virtually.

The ceremony was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the ten member countries of that regional organization.

In his speech, the Cuban Foreign Minister highlighted the interest in expanding cooperation with ASEAN. He also thanked the support given by that organization and its member states to the United Nations resolution "The need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba."

Rodríguez Parrilla also welcomed the relevant role of ASEAN as an international actor and that of Vietnam in the exercise of his presidency.

The Foreign Ministers of the ten Southeast Asian countries signed the TAC extension instrument.

Cuba became the first signatory country in the Caribbean and the fifth in Latin America.
