Oslo, September 29, 2022. The Cuban ambassador, Maité Rivero Torres, visited the Norwegian Parliament (Storting), where she had a cordial meeting with Vibeke Rysst-Jensen, head of the International Department.
The Cuban diplomat expressed her interest in working for the progress of the relations between Cuba and Norway in the parliamentary sphere. Likewise, she conveyed the will of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (ANPP) to develop its ties with the Norwegian legislative body.
After offering information on the composition, structure and functioning of the Cuban Parliament, the Ambassador referred to the intense legislative activity in which it is currently involved moving toward the approval of legal norms that concretize the content of the new Constitution of the Republic approved in 2019. She commented that, as part of this process, several laws have already been adopted, the most recent being the Family Code, submitted to a popular referendum on September 25.
The occasion was propitious to address other current issues such as the impact of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and the damage caused by the Hurricane Ian.
Also present at the meeting were Christian Gahre, head of the Section in charge of America at the Storting International Department, and Daffne Ernesto Mirabal García, second secretary of the Embassy. (Embasy of Cuba in Norway)
