Kingston, 28 July 2023. The Cuban delegation attending the sessions of the Council and the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) called for the strengthening of international cooperation in the management of marine resources and in the care of the oceans and their biodiversity, thus defending the principle of the common heritage of mankind.
In the ensuing discussions, the delegation also stressed the need for the adoption of a comprehensive and robust Mining Code that contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially for developing countries, landlocked and geographically disadvantaged countries and small island developing states.
The head of the Antillean delegation, Maddyel Reyes de Armas, denounced the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States against the people of Cuba, intensified by the unjust inclusion of our country in the spurious and illegal List of State Sponsors of Terrorism, on the participation of Cuban scientists and specialists in events convened by the ISA; as there are prohibitions for Cuba to make use of certain virtual videoconferencing platforms such as ZOOM.
