Havana, May 24, 2022 - The Deputy Minister of Transport, Naima Alfonso Acosta, headed the Cuban delegation that participated in the First China-CELAC Ministerial Forum on Cooperation in Transport, held today in virtual format, under the theme: "Strengthening Connectivity and Promoting Sustainable Transport for the Common Development of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)".
Alfonso Acosta was accompanied by the Deputy National Coordinator for CELAC, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, general director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; as well as by other directors and officials of the Ministries of Transport and Foreign Affairs.
The Cuban delegation emphasized that the country has defined its strategic programs in the field of transportation until 2030, which will allow the development required for the transportation of cargo and passengers in Cuba, and its connectivity with the world.
The Deputy Minister condemned the effects of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government against Cuba and illustrated its main effects on transportation, a strategic sector for the country's development.
She announced that there are important potentials for foreign investment in the transportation sector in Cuba, facilitated by a renewed legislation that offers all necessary guarantees to interested investors. Business projects in the naval industry, in the manufacture of spare parts, in transportation services that ensure exports and in airport activities, are just some of the alternatives available, among others.
Naima Alfonso invited the participants to attend the first International Transport and Logistics Fair, to be held in Havana from September 27-29, 2022.
At the ministerial meeting, a Joint Declaration was approved, by virtue of which cooperation, specialized dialogue and training will be promoted among the member states of the Forum, on transportation policies, exchange of technologies and experiences in land, air and naval transportation, among other topics of common interest.
The China-CELAC Forum is an important platform for cooperation and solidarity between the countries of our region and China, established during the II Summit of the Community, held in Havana, in January 2014.
