Paris, June 28, 2024. On the occasion of the ceremony of transfer from Azerbaijan to Uganda of the presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement at UNESCO, the Ambassador of Cuba called for the strengthening of coordination at this headquarters between the NAM and the Group of 77 and China, the latter chaired by Palestine.
In her intervention, the Cuban representative highlighted the importance of both groups, the most representative of the countries of the South, which have a powerful historical heritage that reflects their most genuine positions on crucial issues for developing countries. Referring to the coincidence in the memberships of both organizations, she described it as a unique strength and advocated deepening unity and cooperation between the two blocs.
In this context, the Permanent Delegate of Cuba referred to the need to revitalize the Joint Coordinating Committee at UNESCO and the actions undertaken by Cuba in this regard during its presidency of the G77 and China in 2023.
By recognizing the work of Azerbaijan as President of the NAM and congratulating Uganda for assuming the task, she recalled the successful development of the 19th Summit of the Movement and the 3rd South Summit, held in Kampala in January 2024, assuring Cuba's support for the new Ugandan presidency.
