Cuba advocates a transparent and democratic General Assembly.

New York, 19 March 2019. "By strengthening the role and authority of the Assembly, we strengthen our commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN and consolidate the democratic and participatory nature of this main organ," said Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy  Permanent Representative of Cuba and Chargé d'Affaires a.i., during the thematic debate on the Role and Authority of the United Nations General Assembly, held within the framework of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly.

In her statement, the Cuban diplomat stressed that the interaction among the main organs of the United Nations should be carried out in accordance with their respective functions, authority, powers and competence enshrined in the Charter and that transparency should prevail. In that regard, she reiterated the call for the cessation of the Council's growing and dangerous tendency to encroach on the scope of action of the Assembly, which entails a violation of the procedures.

Rodríguez Abascal reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue supporting the revitalization process of the General Assembly, aiming at consolidating its democratic and participatory nature.
