Cuba and The Bahamas concluded the IV Round of Technical Talks on Migration

THE BAHAMAS, December 10th, 2016. - After two intense days of exchange, Cuba and The Bahamas concluded the IV Round of Migration Talks, which took place on December 8th to 9th in Nassau, the capital of the Caribbean country.

The visiting Cuban delegation was headed by Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Director of Consular Affairs and Foreign Residents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba. Other officials from the aforesaid Ministry and from the Division of Identification, Immigration and Aliens as well as the Cuban Ambassador to The Bahamas and diplomats from the Embassy were also part of the delegation.

On the Bahamas part, was the head of the delegation Sharon Brennen-Haylock, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration to Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and also consisted of senior officials of the aforesaid Ministry, from the Ministry of National Security and the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs, as well as high officials of the Royal Bahamas Defense Forces.

During the talks, the head of the Cuban delegation explained the ongoing negative consequences of the application of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States against Cuba, the Cuban Adjustment Act, and the “wet-foot dry-foot policy”, which are used to encourage irregular migration from Cuba..

Both delegations considered that the exchange was very fruitful and ratified the friendship ties existing between both countries. Moreover, they expressed their satisfaction with the cooperative spirit and the results achieved in this Fourth Round of Migration Talks between the Republic of Cuba and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
