Havana, December 18th, 2020. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and his counterpart from The Bahamas, Darren Henfield, today ratified the will of both nations to continue strengthening their ties of friendship and cooperation.
On his Twitter account, the Cuban Foreign Minister announced that he had a telephone conversation with Henfield, during which they discussed issues on the bilateral agenda.
"I had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Bahamas Darren Henfield. We discussed issues on the bilateral agenda and expressed our willingness to continue strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation," Rodríguez Parrilla tweeted.
Both Caribbean countries have maintained diplomatic relations for almost five decades, and belong to regional and interregional bodies such as the Caribbean Community (Caricom), the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries.
The Bahamas has ratified its support for Cuba against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States; meanwhile, the largest of the Antilles offers collaboration in The Bahamas, in sectors such as health and education.
According to official sources, a total of 53 education internationalists, nine pharmacists and representatives of the Havanatur tourism agency are collaborating in The Bahamas.
On November 24, air operations between Cuba and Nassau were restored, suspended since April due to the closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Later that month, the Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas, Alejandro García del Toro, and the Minister of Tourism and Aviation of that country, Dionisio D'Aguilar, discussed the development of multi-destination trips in the Caribbean area, starting of the natural beauties and cultural heritages of the region.
