Cuba and Colombia Held Political Consultations and Migration Talks

Bogotá, February 20, 2026 – The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, headed the Cuban delegation that attended the Inter-Ministerial Political Consultations and the Fifth Round of Migration Talks with the Republic of Colombia. The Colombian delegation was led by Vice Ministers Juana Castro Santamaría and Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, respectively.

During the Political Consultations, both delegations expressed their willingness to advance bilateral relations, reviewed common issues on the multilateral agenda, and exchanged views on strengthening economic and trade ties.

Cuba-Colombia Political Consultations

In this context, the results of the Technical Roundtables held the previous day between specialists from both governments were acknowledged. These roundtables aimed to design joint actions in the areas of energy, agriculture and livestock, tourism, biotechnology, culture, sports, and education. It was also agreed to deepen the Economic Complementation Agreement 49, which regulates bilateral trade, as well as to adopt memoranda of understanding between counterpart institutions.

Cuba expressed its gratitude for Colombia's traditional support for the resolution against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, as well as for its efforts to remove Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, and for its assistance to the victims of Hurricane Melissa.

Cuba-Colombia Migration Round

The Fifth Round of Migration Talks facilitated an exchange on topics of mutual interest in the migration and consular fields.

The meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, with the aim of ensuring a regular, orderly, and safe flow of migration, as well as increasing the effectiveness of efforts to combat illicit activities associated with irregular migration.

The Cuban delegation also included Ambassador Carlos de Céspedes Piedra; Zaid Malluly Díaz Medina, Deputy Director General of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad; Tatiana Pupo Gómez, Head of Information and Analysis at the Directorate of Immigration and Foreign Affairs; and other officials.
