Cairo, May 5, 2026. At the House of Representatives building in the new capital, Cuba’s Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Pellicer Moraga, held a cordial meeting with Sameh Shoukry, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Egyptian Parliament.
The Cuban diplomat conveyed to Sameh Shoukry the congratulations of the President of the National Assembly of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernández, and the Chairman of the International Relations Committee, Alberto Núñez Betancourt, on his election as head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian Parliament.
The Ambassador updated the Egyptian parliamentarian on the difficult situation Cuba is facing due to the intensification of the blockade, the oil embargo, and threats from the U.S. government, including the possibility of military intervention on the island. Pellicer emphasized the great suffering caused to the population by the illegal policy of maximum pressure, which leads to prolonged power outages and the paralysis of the economy and basic services for the population, such as medical care, transportation, and food production.
The Cuban diplomat emphasized that Cuba is a peaceful country and has always been willing to engage in dialogue based on the principle of respect for the sovereignty and independence of states, without impositions or threats. He also affirmed the Cuban people’s determination to defend their sovereignty and independence should they be subjected to a military attack by the United States.
For his part, the Egyptian leader expressed gratitude for the congratulations received and the information provided, while conveying his solidarity and support for Cuba at this difficult time. He reaffirmed Egypt’s position of respect for Cuba’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. He also recalled Egypt’s historic support for the Cuban resolution against the blockade, which is presented every year at the UN General Assembly.
They also discussed the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between Egypt and Cuba and mechanisms to strengthen collaborative ties between the parliaments of both countries, including the holding of bilateral meetings at international events. (EmbaCuba Egipto)
